In Honor of Chairman of The Board, John Hile Duke
The Duke Family Foundation Memorial Award is inspired by the life of our founding chairman, John Hile Duke. Long before the windfall and the establishment of the Foundation, Hile was being a quiet, consistent leader in his community and this embodies the DFF Memorial Award.
Community Impact
John Hile Duke devoted his life to strengthening the Salmon community through leadership, service, and philanthropy.
For nearly five decades, he served local families as an insurance agent while actively contributing to organizations including Rotary, the Jaycees, the Boy Scouts, and the Idaho State Bowling Association, where he served as secretary for 40 years.
As chairman of the Duke Family Foundation, he helped direct more than $2 million to Idaho nonprofits, guided by a belief that strong minds, bodies, and spirits create lasting community impact. Whether mentoring youth, supporting local causes, or simply being a trusted friend and neighbor, John left an enduring legacy of generosity, integrity, and service.

The Memorial Award was established upon Hile’s passing to honor someone who has consistently supported their community through this and other charities and roles. Hile’s smile lit up a room and his affection for the people around him was palpable. This award goes to an individual who also brings that type of joy with them and shares it with those around them.
